Our Breeding Program
ENS and Handling
We begin Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) from days 3 to 16, a practice originally developed for military working dogs to improve their resilience and stress tolerance. ENS supports positive development during a puppy’s early weeks by introducing mild stressors that can help promote brain development and adaptability. After the ENS phase, we introduce a 10-step handling process that builds trust, tolerance, and patience. This process includes gently touching their paws, ears, and mouths to prepare them for grooming and vet visits, holding them in different positions to encourage patience, and exposing them to various textures and pressure levels to increase their comfort with handling. These experiences set our puppies up to be stress-free during everyday handling situations like grooming, vet visits, and general interaction with people.
Puppy Curriculum
At Morning Star Bulldogges, our puppies follow a carefully structured curriculum, originally developed for potential therapy dogs, to ensure they are well-prepared for their future homes. Starting at just 3 days old, they undergo sensory exposure and age-appropriate handling exercises to help them become confident, adaptable, and well-rounded companions. As they grow, we continue to enhance their natural abilities through obstacle exploration, socialization, and exposure to various sounds to help prevent noise sensitivity. This curriculum provides the foundation for our puppies to thrive as loving members of their new families.
Puppy Evaluations
In addition to our hands-on approach, we conduct puppy evaluations to assess each puppy’s temperament and reactions to different activities and situations. Each puppy is given a profile summarizing their results, which can help simplify the decision-making process when selecting the puppy that best fits your family’s lifestyle. The evaluations can also give families valuable insight into their puppies unique personality including traits like confidence, sensitivity, energy level and sociability. This can help guide training methods that work for each individual pup, making it easier to manage behavior, build trust and create a strong bond early on. Understanding a puppy's temperament also helps to set realistic expectations and supports a smoother transition into their new home.
